DIY: A STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE ON HOW TO USE YOUR FUTURA TRAILER

Getting a Futura Trailer means you’ll have access to unique technology that provides all the benefits you’ve been looking for. The uniquely designed lowering system makes it easy to accommodate vehicles with low ground clearance. But with unique technology comes unique challenges.

We’re providing this guide to help you understand the how to use your Futura Trailer to make transporting your vehicle effortless.

GETTING STARTED

As with any other trailer, you’ll want to start by positioning yourself on flat, even ground. This makes it easier to load the car onto the lowered deck without adding unnecessary obstacles. Speaking of which, removing debris and anything else around the loading area will also be helpful.

ATTACH THE TRAILER TO THE TOW VEHICLE

With Futura's Sport Range of lowering trailers, you can load your vehicle without it being attached to the tow vehicle. But if you're ready to take off after it's loaded, you can attach it first! It will also help with stability and make it easier to go through the hitching process. You’ll want to make sure there are 14-16 inches of space between the coupling and the ground. Complete the remaining, standard hitching steps of attaching the crossed safety chains or cables and breakaway lanyard.

PREPARE THE TRAILER FOR THE LOADING PROCESS

There are a few more steps that need to be carried out before the loading process can begin.

  • Raise the jack by cranking it up until it locks, and then tighten a little more for extra security.
  • Turn on the master switch.
  • Release the safety latches.
  • Turn on the wireless remote by holding both the UP and DOWN buttons together until you see the red light.
  • Employ all emergency brakes and check to ensure your tow vehicle is in park.

LOWERING THE DECK

Now it’s time to start the loading process. Press the DOWN button on your wireless remote to lower the trailer until it reaches the ground. Make sure you’re a safe distance from the trailer when you’re doing this. You can also use the manual switch on the winch box. Once the deck has reached the ground, switch the safety latches to auto-latch, so when you raise the trailer, they’ll engage automatically.

*Safety First!

When you’re operating the trailer lowering system, keep these safety tips in mind:

  • Keep your distance especially when it comes to the moving mechanisms.
  • Never touch the cables or other moving parts when in operation.
  • If you realize you forgot to unlock the safety latches, raise the trailer back up again before unlocking them.

LOADING THE VEHICLE

Now it’s finally time to load your vehicle. Drive, winch, or roll it up onto the deck as far forward as possible. This minimizes the risk of trailer sway. Engage the emergency brake, if available.

*Note that if the location of the engine is in the rear of your car, the car can be forward facing as long as the car is positioned as far forward on the trailer deck as possible.

RAISE THE TRAILER

We’re already wrapping up the loading process! Raise the trailer again by pressing the UP button on your wireless remote or by using the manual switch on the winch box. If there is a driver, they should remain in the vehicle until the safety latches have engaged and are latched into place. At this point, you’ll want to secure the vehicle onto the trailer using Futura Tie-Downs.

FINAL CHECKS

For safety and security, you’ll want to perform some final checks before hitting the road. Make sure the safety latches are securely engaged and the lifting arms are flush against the mounting beam. If you notice these conditions are not met and the security latches are not engaged, try moving the trailer, as you might be on uneven ground.

Also, make sure to double-check all towing connections and confirm that you’re still maintaining the 14-16 inch distance from coupling to ground.

UNLOADING TIPS

When you reach your destination and it’s time to unload, be sure to lower the trailer to the ground and check to see that the ropes are relaxed before unloading.

Using this guide, you’ll be ready to hit the road in just a few simple steps. If you’re ready to take the plunge and get your own Futura Trailer, then contact us and we’ll help you find which Futura Trailer is right for your car.
