Properly strapping your car to a trailer is crucial for safe transportation.
Follow these steps to ensure your vehicle is securely fastened:
1. Prepare the Trailer and Vehicle
Clean the trailer deck and inspect it for damage
Position the vehicle on the trailer to ensure that 10% of the total of the trailer tare weight and the loaded vehicle weight is on the tow hitch.
Apply the parking brake and put the car in neutral (or park for automatics)
2. Choose the Right Equipment
Ensure straps are in good condition without frays or weak spots
Have wheel chocks ready for added security
3. Identify Proper Tie-Down Points
Locate sturdy attachment points on both the car and trailer
Use designated tie-down hooks, tie rings or frame rails on the vehicle
Avoid attaching to suspension components or steering parts
Tie to the tires if using purpose-built tire tie straps
4. Secure the Vehicle
Attach straps to the front tie-down points at a 45-degree angle
Repeat for the rear tie-down points
Use a minimum of four straps - one for each corner of the vehicle
