Replacing or Upgrading Your Trailer Brake Controller
How to replace or upgrade the brake controller on your Futura trailer.
Overview
Futura trailers with electric brakes use an electronic brake controller to regulate braking force. If your brake controller has failed or you wish to upgrade, a plug-and-play replacement is available.
Recommended Replacement
Part: Red Arc Brake Controller. Plug-and-play compatible with Futura trailer wiring harnesses. Contact your Futura dealer to order.
Installation
The Red Arc brake controller connects directly to the existing trailer wiring. No custom wiring or adapters are required.
Any qualified auto electrician or mechanical professional can complete the installation. Futura does not allocate labour for brake controller fitting, but the install is straightforward and typically takes under one hour.
Compliance note: Brake controllers are a safety-critical component. Ensure the replacement unit is installed by a qualified professional and tested on-road before regular use. Brake performance must comply with NZTA regulations.
Signs Your Brake Controller Needs Replacement
- No braking response when the tow vehicle brake pedal is applied
- Inconsistent or intermittent braking
- Warning lights on the tow vehicle dashboard related to trailer braking
