All Futura and SHIFTR lowering trailers have a solar panel mounted on the toolbox. The solar panel helps keep the battery topped up and prevents it from losing charge if the trailer is stored for prolonged periods without use.

The solar panel requires sunlight to be effective, so it may not be sufficient to maintain the battery level when the trailer is stored indoors or in a covered area with limited sun exposure.

Some owners may notice the protective coating on the solar panel cracking or peeling over time. This is a cosmetic issue only and does not affect the panel’s electrical output or void your warranty.

What to do: Gently scrape the loose coating off. The panel will continue to function normally without it. No replacement is required unless the panel itself is physically cracked or damaged.

Replace the solar panel if:

• The panel is physically cracked or shattered
• Voltage output has dropped below expected levels (check with a multimeter across the panel leads in direct sunlight)
• The panel has sustained impact damage

The original solar panels fitted to earlier Futura trailers have been discontinued. A newer retrofit kit is available that uses the original mounting holes on the toolbox lid — no drilling or modification required.

The retrofit kit is designed for straightforward installation:

1. Remove the old panel by unscrewing from the toolbox lid mounting points.
2. Position the new panel over the existing mounting holes.
3. Secure with the hardware provided in the kit.
4. Reconnect the panel leads to the existing wiring harness. Polarity must be observed (red to positive, black to negative).
5. Verify output with a multimeter: you should see 18–21V open circuit in direct sunlight.
